Blog Move

03/19/2011

Our blog has moved to Stixyarn.com.

The Stix Chix are huge fans of Blue Sky Alpacas yarns and their ADORABLE patterns, so we went a little cotton crazy.  We’ve got 14 colors of Skinny Cotton and a whole wall full of Worsted Cotton.  We’ve got lots of new patterns for both of these yarns and for a short time we have Blue Sky Alpacas trunk show on display so you can see some of these designs in person.  Come down and see what all the excitement is about.

See you down at Stix this weekend.

Knitters wanted

02/11/2011

Stix has received two calls for help this week, so we are extending the call to all of you. Please help if you can!

Molly Schwarz from Anderson School is looking for someone to teach knitting to third graders at the school.  The program has flexible hours and the duration of the project is also flexible. Please call her if you interested in helping to create a new generation of knitters. 580-1588

Kristina Sykes is a graphic design student at MSU. For her senior project, she is developing knitting kits, and is looking for someone to do some commissioned knitting work for the project. The knitted items  are quick, simple, and fun. Please give her a call as soon as possible if you are able to help her with her project.  697-3173

Thanks everyone!

More new books!

02/09/2011

I love it when I hear the UPS delivery man coming down the stairs! Today he brought us two new publications, and I love them both.

Knitting Plus by Lisa Shroyer

Knitting Plus, by Lisa Shroyer, is full of flattering plus-size designs. The garments feature a great range of techniques…….fair-isle, cables, lace……….and they are actually photographed on real people. I think that’s my favorite thing about the book!

We also received the newest issue of Knitting Traditions magazine from Interweave Press. I am on a big fair-isle kick right now, and most of the issue is dedicated to just that. Great socks, gloves, hats, mittens, and felted projects.

This is a great issue which would be a perfect addition to the magazine reference area of my (I mean your) stash. I can’t decide if I want to start the fingerless mitts on the cover or the Appalachian Gathering Basket first.  Come down and help me decide!

That’s right, we love it more than the King of Rock and Roll himself.

Those doing the KAL for Ginevra: we will hold this yarn for you until Friday.  Then it goes on the shelf.

Malabrigo is here.  Yippee!

Three boxes of the most delicious yarns arrived this afternoon.

Rowan- Need I say more?

Felted Tweed!  Lima!  Cashsoft dk!  Kidsilk Haze!

Hurry down to see all the new colors!

What makes alpaca yarn so delicious?  Alpaca fibers have a hollow core making it warm – warmer than wool – yet breathable.  Alpaca also is less itchy than many other animal fibers.  Many people who can’t wear traditional lamb’s wool can wear alpaca against their skin.  Yarns spun from alpaca fiber are subtly fuzzy, extra cushy, and have an elegant drape making for stunning garments, scarves, and shawls.  For all these reasons Stix has stocked up on some of the most lovely alpaca yarns available including…

… Blue Sky Alpacas Sport Weight
This yarn not only is a super-soft plied alpaca in yummy colors, but because it’s from Blue Sky Alpacas, you know it comes with great patterns.  My new favorite is “Olga’s Mitts” written specifically for this yarn.

… Misti Alpaca Bulky
This Bulky weight baby alpaca yarn is perfect for gratifying accessories like hats, scarves, cowls, and mittens.  The yarn comes in a great variety of solid colors and is also available in stunning hand-painted colorways.  Try out the very popular “Cranberry  Sauce” hat on Tangled.

… Joseph Galler Heather Prime Alpaca
This DK Peruvian alpaca yarn is perfect for all your medium weight projects. Each skein has an incredible 665 yards making it a great cost-effective choice for scarves, shawls, or garments.

Come by and check out all of these yarns for yourself in our ever-growing alpaca display.

Turkeys are aroasting and we are afreezing.  See you November 30- the same night as the Crochet Mittens if you would like to join that class!

Knit Night will start back up on Tuesday, September 7th, 7-9pm. It will be great to get back to knitting on Tuesday nights. Start thinking about what you want to bring to work on while you chat.
